EP04: How to Identify and Utilise Your Skillsets as a Student in 2019 and Beyond with Oliver Carson
It happens to mostly all of us that as we enter our late teens and early twenties when we wonder what we want to do with our lives. We have a lot of people telling us what we should do, giving us advice yet lose sense of who we are, our passions and unique qualities and skills.
We fall into jobs, careers and do things that don’t give us the joy and fulfilment we crave just to keep others happy. But, what about us?
Instead, wouldn’t it be good if we could find something that challenges us, gives us the fulfilment we crave and utilises our skillsets and unique qualities? Oh, and something that we are passionate about…
Well, this is possible for us all. And, the question many then face is where do I start?
In this episode of the Grow2Gether Podcast, we sit down with Oliver Carson who is going through this right now (at the time of the podcast) as a University Student. Oliver shares how he is using multiple different tactics and strategies to identify and then utilise his skillsets both in the workplace and at University to truly find a vocation and career that is for him!
Top points from this episode:
- Self-awareness is an important trait for everyone to develop and students are no different. Self-awareness can help you to identify and utilise your other skills which can help you to save time and get ahead whether it’s in your studies, in the workplace or in life in general.
- As we live in the information-age there is a lot of information out there for students (and everyone) which can be confusing on which career path to go down and where you want to take your life. Developing self-awareness, identifying what you’re good at and trying new things to find what you’re most passionate about can all help you navigate the noise.
- Reflecting on what you’ve enjoyed, been good at and have liked as you’ve grown up is a good way of “going back to your roots” to find those livelong passions which can be turned into a vocation. Spend the time to do this and see what you might find.
- Plus, much much more!
