You Are Born To Be Negative (But That Doesn’t Matter)
Oftentimes we get told to be positive, to be grateful. That you shouldn’t worry or be negative because there’s nothing to worry about.
But this is what everyone forgets to tell you. Your natural mindset is to think negative. Thinking negative kept humans alive for thousands of years. Negative thinking and worry are found in every animal. Without negative thinking and worry, animals wouldn’t survive.
Look at any wild animal. They’re always on edge, always ready to run, because they know if they’re not constantly worrying about everything around them they’re probably going to end up as something else’s dinner.
And we all have the same wild animal in our heads as well. So don’t believe the lie that some people are naturally positive.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t be a positive thinker! It just means that it’s not your natural state.
Thousands of years ago if you weren’t worrying about what’s going to happen if a disease blights your crops you’d die. That’s why stores were built.
If you weren’t worried about knowing how to defend yourself if you were attacked, you’d die. That’s why weapons were invented.
Being pessimistic literally kept humans alive.
But here’s where you’re going wrong…
However, just because you’re naturally negative, doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.
It’s okay to wake up in the morning and have negative thoughts and worry. But you can choose not to let them take you over. Instead, You should be questioning them and battling them. For every negative thought you have, you should try replacing it with a positive one.
For example, right now I’m struggling to motivate myself to go to the gym. I’m thinking about riding in the cold, the fact that it’s going to be busy, the fact that I won’t be able to get into bed until late.
But for every one of those negative thoughts I have, there’s a positive one. I think about the sense of accomplishment I’m going to feel when I’m done, the fact that when I’m there I’m going to enjoy myself, that even if it’s cold on the way there I enjoy the fresh air.
Because it’s a constant battle between being negative and being positive. And the truth is it’s easier to be negative than to be positive. But just because it’s easier doesn’t mean that it’s right.
So, the next time you feel like you’re being negative all the time, remind yourself that it’s your natural state. And then really push yourself to get into a more positive mindset. Sometimes it’s the hardest thing in the world to do, but once you do it, your positive self will thank you!
Have a great day!
